Children’s Festival Freestyle Mentorship Program
Dance Saskatchewan in partnership with the Saskatoon Children’s Festival will be hosting the Rock The Block open styles battles, on June 7th and 8th in Kinsmen Park. For this year’s youth battle category Dance Saskatchewan is looking for local Saskatoon urban artists and teachers to mentor youth on how to battle and freestyle for the month of May leading up to the event.
DSI is looking for artists to mentor youth on hip hop culture and dance in preparation for the event. This is to give youth more confidence in the freestyle/ battle aspects of hip hop culture.
Artists chosen for the program will mentor students twice a week for 1 hours. Chosen artists will be required to get a vulnerability sector check which will be reimbursed and artists will be paid at a rate of $50/hour. If you are interested in the mentorship please find the application below.
We will be selecting artists based on style knowledge, availability and previous experience working with youth. Preference will be given to DSI members or non-members who are committed to joining our organization.
Artists who participate in the program are still welcome to participate in the 17+ Open styles battle.
If you know of any 16 and under youth interested in being mentored, they can register at: https://childrensfestsk.ca/activities-list/danceland
Application deadline is Friday, April 25, 2025.
